The starch nitrates have a nitrogen content of 6-12 wt.%, and a viscosity index of ≥ 40. They are in a solution of 25 wt.% in a ternary solvent mixture with 25 wt.% ethyl alcohol at 95 degrees GL, 20 wt.% ethyl acetate and 55 wt.% toluene. It has a sedimentation of ≤ 20 and a total optical density ≤ 40 determined by spectrophotometry at 460 nm and 630 nm. Preferred features: The solution has a sedimentation of ≤ 10 and a total optical density of ≤ 25. The viscosity index is ≥ 52. The starch nitrates are impregnated with water and/or at least one composition selected from alcohols, plasticizers, dilutants, solvents or which dissolve in a solvent medium such as ethyl alcohol, isopropylic alcohol and Neplast (RTM). The starch nitrates are mixed with nitrocellulose. The starch nitrates can be mixed with a sulfonitric solution composed of 15-80 wt.% nitric acid, 50-75 wt.% sulfuric acid and 5-30 wt.% water and a material to bond the sulfonitric mass to the starch mass expressed as dry matter, with a nitration ratio of ≥ 10 at a temperature of 0-40 degrees C. The nitration ratio is ≥ 30. The starch nitrates are stabilized by heating in a water medium for several hours, under pressure if required.
|
