A device for controlling the position of a cursor on a computer screen comprising: (a) a housing comprising upper and lower parts 14, 15, three switch push buttons 11, 12, 13, and a recessed area 155; (b) a finger controllable member 3 containing a magnetic member; (c) movable photo encoders 4, for the X-axis and Y-axis, e.g. having alternating dark and clear areas; (d) photo detectors 6, 7 for the X-axis and the Y-axis, each comprising an LED, a photo transistor, a calibrating photo encoder attached to the surface of the photo transistor, all in a casing to receive the respective movable photo encoders; (e) an inside slidable member also containing a magnetic member, and (f) a control circuit for processing signals generated by the photo detectors and transmitting processed signals to the computer, the finger controllable member being slidable on the recessed area to move the inside slidable member correspondingly by magnetic force therebetween, movement of the inside slidable member moving the X-axis and/or Y-axis photo detectors to input co-ordinate displacement data to the computer via the control circuit; displacement of the cursor on the display being proportional to that of the finger controllable member. |
