<p>Method of control of the injection and ignition of the air/fuel mixture in an internal combustion engine (2) to accelerate the heating of a catalytic converter (6) placed along the exhaust gas discharge duct (5) of the engine (2), the method involving the stages of supplying a rich mixture to a first given number of cylinders of the engine (2), whereby the air/fuel ratio assumes a value lower than the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio; supplying a lean mixture to the remaining cylinders of the engine (2) whereby the air/fuel ratio assumes a value greater than the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio, and in such a manner that overall the engine air/fuel ratio of the engine (2) is essentially stoichiometric; and the delaying of the moment of effective explosion (teff) of the combustion in relation to a nominal explosion effect (t) in at least a part of the cylinders supplied with rich mixture in such a manner that a residual combustion occurs along the exhaust duct (5) and accelerates the heating of the catalytic converter (6). <IMAGE> <IMAGE></p> |
