PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an cermet cutting tool which can exhibit excellent wear resistance at high speed cutting. SOLUTION: A cutting tool made of cermet has a composition comprising a binder phase mainly composed of a hard dispersion phase having 80 to 97 area percent, and the remainder of Co and/or Ni, and an inevitable impurities. The hard dispersion phase is composed of a Ti group composite metal carbon nitride phase and a Zr group composite metal carbonitride phase, the Ti group composite metal carbonitride phase having a composition formula: (Ti, Zr, M) C, N (where M is at least one kind selected from a group consisting of V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W), and the Zr group composite metal carbonitride phase having a composition formula: (Zr, Ti, M) C, N (where M is at least one kind selected from a group consisting of V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W), the rate of the Zr composite metal carbonitride phase is 3 to 35 area % with respect to the total quantity including the Ti composite metal carbonitride phase. |
