PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and inexpensively obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate, etc., of dyes in photochemical field by a halogenating agent excellent in handleability by using a specific N-substituted-1,2,4-triazole derivative as a raw material. SOLUTION: (A) A compound of formula I [R1 is a (substituted)aliphatic group or a (substituted)aryl; R3 is an electron-attracting group in which a value of Hamet substituent group constantσρis 0.2-1.0; R4 is a group substitutable for nitrogen atom of triazole ring (e.g. acetyl or benzoyl)] (e.g. derivatized from a compound of formula II) is halogenated with (B) a halogenating agent such as 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethyl-hydantoin to provide the objective compound of formula III (X is a halogen such as Br).
