PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying a coating containing a biologically active material with controlled release characteristics and mixed therewith to implantable prosthesis or the like. SOLUTION: The coating 102 of an implantable device or prosthesis 101, and the coating method are disclosed. The coating 102 includes an undercoat 103 of a polymer material containing a dispersed biologically active material, especially heparin in an prescribed amount. The coating 102 further includes a topcoat 104 covering less than the entire outer surface of the undercoat and comprising a polymeric material substantially free of pores and porosigens. The polymeric material of the topcoat 104 is a biostable and biocompatible material, and provides long-term non-thrombogenic properties to a part of the device during or after release of the biologically active material. |
