A shoe spike formed principally of thermoplastic material, and which incorporates an integral unthreaded fastening stud, to fit securely into a cavit y in the shoe. An expansion device may also be used for insertion into the fastening stud, so as to expand the fastening stud within the cavity. An athletic shoe wit h such spike, is also disclosed.
