Inverse latex compositions useful as thickener in cosmetic compositions as a replacement for natural products and polyacrylic acid type products. Inverse latex composition comprising an oil phase, an aqueous phase, at least one water iota n-oil (W/0) type emulsifying agent, at least one oil-in-water (o/W) type emulsifying agent, and 20-60 (25- 45) wt. % of a branched or crosslinked anionic polyelectrolyte based on at least one monomer having a strong acid function copolymerised with either at least one monomer having a weak acid function or at least one neutral monomer.
