The border (3) and internally edge-sealing thrust-down lids (2) are pressed home towards the center of the container by means of an internally profiled tumbler via expanding segments (4) and the end of the container casing border (3) is drawn inwards on a tumbler ring having two rotating cams, either without thrust-down lid or a holding ring for a press-in lid. The border can be drawn inwards for a container of differing section or dimensions with or without thrust-down lid.
