An antibacterial composition for topical administration having a potent antibacterial effect over a broad range and a high safety and containing in a stable state penem antibiotics which are chemically unstable to hydrolysis, oxidation, photoisomerization, etc. The composition comprises a non-aqueous base blended with a penem antibiotic or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
