Calibrating process for electronic engraving machine for printing forms

The calibrating process involves producing an engraving control signal from engraving values representing the intended tone values between light and deep and from a periodic grid signal. This control signal controls the engraving stylus of an engraving unit. The diagonals of a specimen representing the middle tones are varied so that the volume of the specimen is maintained regardless of the mechanical wear of the engraving stylus.
