Composite profile strip used, e.g., as an exterior molding for a vehicle

Production of a composite profile strip with a plastic layer on the visible side involves shaping the rear of the profile to form a concave cavity for insertion of a plastic strip with integral retaining clips. In the production of a long composite profile consisting of a backing strip with a polymeric layer on the visible side, by cutting the composite profile into lengths while shaping the end regions and then molding to final shape, the entire length of the profile is shaped at its rear to form a concave cavity, into which is inserted a correspondingly shaped polymeric strip having integral outwardly projecting retaining clips. An Independent claim is also included for a composite profile produced by the above process.
