A first diode (DM) is fitted between two test connections (a,b), one of which is connected to an earth connection through a test resistor (R) and a second diode (DE). By using measured resistance values, wire contacts, line interruptions, earth contacts, correct polarity and pairing of wires in sequence can be determined through a measuring device connected to the pair of wires to be tested or to a wire (A or B) and the earth.
