The method employs an industrial robot with at least five degrees of freedom for movement. A cutting tool (83,79) on its working arm (81) lances the protective foil at one end of a joint (6) or bead to be freed, and then moves along the joint to cut through the foil. The cut foil edges are pressed against the body by a pressure tool (83,87), which is located on the working arm behind the cutting tool.
