TAMPER EVIDENT CLOSURE FOR BEVERAGES

A tamper evident closure has a top portion (12), and an interior sealing portion (22, 54), which coacts with a rim (42) of a container (36). The top portion also has a depending skirt (14) with interior retaining members (20) which coact with exterior retaining members (44) on the container neck (40). Locking members (32) on the closure engage stop members (50) on the container neck to prevent the closure from turning once installed. The closure further has a tab (16) which is engaged by a user to fracture a tamper indicating member in the form of a score line (28, 30) to allow the closure to open.
