An animal model for experimental infection with Helicobacter pylori which displays the acute symptoms of Helicobacter pylori infection. The model can be prepared by injecting an animal, such as a xenobiotic dog, with a dose of bacteria previously adapted to the mouse. The invention also relates to the use of the animal model for the development of vaccines, chemotherapeutics and diagnostics.
