The air compressor for an internal combustion motor acts as a pressure generator (3), with a pressure generator shaft (6) as the drive, keyed to a drive wheel (10) through a switched clutch (16). The drive wheel (10) is powered by the vehicle motor. A freewheel clutch (20) is between the motor crankshaft and the generator shaft (6) to disengage them on a drop in the torque, in the direction of the torque. The pressure generator is a turbo charger or an air presser.
