A controller (1) gives an HDD interface (6) a command to transfer AV data from an HDD (7) to a memory (10). The HDD interface responds to the command by transferring the AV data from the HDD to the memory that is bus-mapped. The controller (1) also gives the HDD interface (6) a command to record AV data from the memory onto the HDD (7). The HDD interface responds to the command by reading the AV data from the bus-mapped memory and writing them on the HDD. The sequence of these steps is carried out in a manner synchronous with each frame period so that AV data can be transferred to and from the HDD.
