<p>A surgical tool for cutting and/or coagulating tissue includes piezo-electric driver (1, 2) to generate ultrasonic energy comprising torsional mode vibrations. A waveguide (4) is operatively connected at a proximal end to the driver (1, 2) and extends a distance of nμT/2 (where μT is the wavelength of ultrasonic vibration in the material of the work horn or waveguide).
