Video recorder control

A controller for a digital video recorder (20) is arranged to receive generic commands from an application running in a receiver/decoder (10) and to generate control sequences appropriate to a digital video recorder (20) connected to the receiver/decoder (10) for transmission over a high-speed digital interface such as an IEEE 1394 interface which also carries data between the receiver/decoder (10) and the video recorder (20). The controller may be used in conjunction with an application which generates an on-screen menu for control of the video recorder (20). <IMAGE>
