<p>When a steering angle speed (V&thetas;), a rate of change of a steering angle with respect to time is not higher than a predetermined stop threshold level (Vb) (YES at S10) with a motor current value (Im) within a motor stop range ( DELTA I), which is determined on the basis of a no-load current value, for a predetermined period of time (YES's at S12 and S13), a motor is stopped (S14). Since the no-load current value is a value recorded when the steering torque is zero, the motor stop range corresponds to a range in which steering assistance is not required. Namely, when both the steering angle speed (V&thetas;) and steering torque are small, the steering assistance is regarded as unnecessary, and the motor is stopped. <IMAGE></p> |
