PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device provided with a reflective layer which reflects incident light and also improves the diffusing effect. SOLUTION: This device holds a liquid crystal layer in a gap between a pair of substrates stuck together having picture element selecting electrodes, etc., and is provided with a reflective layer on an inner surface of one of this substrate pair for reflecting light made incident from the other transparent substrate, and is constituted thereby. In this case, the above-mentioned reflective layer of this device is formed of an intermediate layer 9 having fine ruggedness on the reflective layer surface formed on one substrate mentioned above and a high reflection coating 8 deposited on the upper layer of this intermediate layer 9.
