Solid ablatable materials composed principally of an organic binder, at least one reductive organic filler and additives, where: (i) the reductive organic filler is 3,5-diaminotriazole, dimethyl bitetrazole, tetraformaltrisazine, melamine or 5-aminotetrazole; (ii) the binder content is 4-80 wt.% total product weight; and (iii) the enthalpy of formation DELTA Hf of the material is at least 1250 kJ/kg.
