PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful, e.g. as a raw material for pharmaceuticals by reacting a racemic trans-3(4-lower alkoxyphenyl)glycidic acid ester with an amine compound in the presence of an enzyme originated from microorganism of the genus Serratia. SOLUTION: The objective (2R,3R)-type 3-(4-lower alkoxyphenyl)glycidic acid ester of formula II is produced by reacting a racemic trans-3-(4-lower alkoxyphenyl) glycidic acid ester of formula I (R<1> is a lower alkyl; R is an ester residue) with an amine compound of formula R<2> NH2 (If is H or a lower alkyl) in the presence of an enzyme originated from a microorganism of the genus Serratia capable of asymmetrically amidating a (2S,3R)-type 3-(4-lower alkoxyphenyl)glycidic acid ester to effect the selective amidation of the (2S,3R)- type optical isomer and separating and collecting the remaining (2R,3S)-type derivative from the reaction liquid. |
