PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to reduce power consumption in a picture display device for driving a sub-field. SOLUTION: This picture display device comprises a sub-field conversion part 1 for converting an input picture signal into a sub-field data, a data processing part 2 for processing the data into a form conforming to a driving system, an address electrode driving part 3 controlled by the data processing part, a discharge control part 4 for controlling generation of discharge pulses according to the result of the sub-field detecting part, a scan-electrode driving part 5 controlled by a discharge drive control part, and a sustain electrode drive part 6, and power consumption is reduced by stopping the discharge related to the sub-field drive not contributing to emission of light. |
