<p>There is provided a gasket including a gasket body (1a) which is formed axially thereof with a through-hole (2), and further with an annular groove (4a) to thereby define contact portions (5a) between the annular groove (4a) and opposite contact surfaces (3a). The annular groove (4a) extends from an inner wall (2a) of the through-hole (2) towards a side surface (3b) of the gasket body (1a). A projection (6) having a semicircular cross-section is formed on each one of the contact surfaces (3a) above the annular groove (4a) so that the projection (6) entirely surrounds the through-hole (2). In use, the gasket is sandwiched between flanges. When compressed between flanges, the contact portions (5a) are resiliently deformed, and resultingly, a counter-force exerted on the contact portions (5a) makes the contact portions (5a) and hence the projections (6) tightly contact the flanges. Thus, hermetic sealing is established between the gasket and flanges. <IMAGE> <IMAGE></p> |
