PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To output an image signal so as to reproduce a natural image in accordance with the degree of saturation in a saturated image area even when the saturated image area is included in the image. SOLUTION: An image feature variable calculating means 3 calculates the feature variables such as a scene of an image based on image signals inputted from an image signal input means 1 and logarithmically transformed by a logarithmic transform means 2. A saturated image area judging means 4 decides whether a saturated image area exists in the image or not. An image output condition for the output of the image signal is determined by image output condition determining means 5, 6 based on the existence of the feature variables and the saturated image area. After executing prescribed image processing for the image signal by an image processing means 7, an output image signal conversion means 8 converts the image signal based on the determind image output condition and an output means 9 reproduces the image signal as a visible image. |
