PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high capacity battery characteristic without breakage of an electrode plate in the case of a repetition of a charge and discharge cycle and in an over-charge condition by using a copper foil in a current collector, in a negative electrode plate of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. SOLUTION: A copper foil whose rupture strength per unit length is not less than 4.7 kgf/mm is used as a copper foil of a current collector in a negative electrode plate 6. An electrode plate group 4 is constructed by vortically winding a positive and a negative electrode plates 5, 6 via a separator 7, and the electrode plate group 4 is accommodated in a battery case 1. A relation L/S>=0.8 is established between a sectional area S of the inside of the case 1 and a sectional area L of the electrode plate 4 in connection with a vertical cross section to a height direction of a battery.
