PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the start-up for performing the scanning of a printing medium and the section required in this start-up, in an apparatus wherein a plurality of printing means having printing elements are arranged and the scanning of the printing medium is performed in a direction different from the arranging direction, to miniaturize the apparatus and to increase a printing speed. SOLUTION: Means (scales 61 and encoders 62) detecting the respective positions of a plurality of printing means in a scanning direction and a means for independently controlling the driving timings of printing elements with respect to a plurality of the printing means based on the data detected by the detection means are provided. By this constitution, printing operation can be performed even during acceleration and deceleration periods at times of the start and completion of scanning. |
