<p>The urban transport system has a fleet of electric vehicles (2 each equipped with an interchangeable battery packs (7) and a network of kiosks to exchange battery packs. The electric vehicles have a receptacle (8) to accept the battery pack, with a power connector which can be released to allow removal of batteries and engaged when a new battery pack is inserted. The receptacle is thermally insulated or electrically heated for effective battery operation in cold weather. Each kiosk has a handling mechanism that removes the battery pack from a vehicle and inserts a replacement. Battery packs are recharged at the kiosk.</p> |
