Neutron absorber material useful for producing control rods for nuclear reactors especially PWRs

A neutron absorber material, comprising a composite material of hafnium diboride and hafnium dioxide, is new. An Independent claim is also included for production of the above neutron absorber material by sintering a homogeneous mixture of hafnium dioxide powder and hafnium diboride powder. Preferred Features: The composite material comprises /-80 (especially 90) vol.% hafnium diboride and up to 20 (especially 10) vol.% hafnium dioxide.
