A continuous process for covering the narrow edge of a workpiece with a wood-based layer forming part of an adjacent surface layer(3) includes: a) machining the narrow edge to a profile while simultaneously creating a free excess length(7) of the adjacent surface layer(3); b) applying a stabilizing layer to the excess length(7) on the face be bonded onto the profiled edges; c) applying a fluid onto the opposite side of the excess length(7) and heating; d) bending the excess length(7) around the edge and pressing onto it. Claimed process equipment comprises a) a workpiece(2) conveyor; b) narrow edge profiling tolls (41.44); c) stabilizing layer applicator (46); d) fluid applicator unit (47) e) fluid heating unit (48); f) a pressure applicator (49) for bending over and pressing the excess length (7) onto the profiled edge.
