The electromagnetically controlled bi-directional freewheeling clutch for selective connection of a first rotary part with a second rotary part has at least one clutch support (14) which is connected to the first rotary part and is located in pivoting fashion between two working positions. The support(s) comprise(s) at least one permanent magnet (24,26). An electric excitation coil (30) builds up a magnetic field near the clutch support(s), the field having either a positive polarity or a negative one according to the direction of the current through the coil. The support can be pivoted into one working position when the field is positive and into the other position when the field is negative. A reaction part (20) is connected to the second rotary part for selective working together with the clutch support(s).
