The mobile telephone has a display panel (44) and on this is a display line that has a graphics display of symbols. The symbols may be alphanumeric characters or icons. The user interface for symbol selection is in the form of a roller that has symbols around the periphery and can be moved along a guide. The selected symbols can be shown on LCD elements. An Independent claim is included for a method for manipulation of graphic symbols on a display.
