The invention is concerned with novel hypolipidemic compounds of formula (I), wherein R<1> is H or methyl, and salts, solvates or physiologically functional derivatives thereof, with processes and novel intermediates for their preparation, pharmaceutical compositions containing them and with their use in medicine, particularly in the prophylaxis and treatment of hyperlipidermic conditions and associated diseases, such as atherosclerosis.
