A stent for implantation into a body passage comprising first and second sets of helical counter-rotating metallic filaments which are braided together to define a tubular stent body which is biased toward a first radially expanded configuration and which is compressible into a second radially compressed configuration, the filaments being encased in an elastomer having a hardness of up to 85 on the Shore A hardness scale.
