PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of using ink without waste, forming a stable ink image by a little energy and preventing plastic deformation of an intermediate transferring body. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus 1 comprises heat-meltable ink 10, a heating/melting means 20, an ink holding means 30, an intermediate transferring body 40 having a resistance layer 41 consisting of a polyimide film including dispersed carbon and a conductive layer 42 consisting of a stainless belt, a recording means 50 consisting of a needle electrode 51 contacting the resistance layer 41 on the intermediate transferring body 40 and a ground electrode 52, and a transferring means 70 for transferring ink image on the intermediate transferring body 40 to a recording medium 60. When a voltage is applied across the needle electrode 51 and ground electrode 52 from a power source, a joule heat is generated on the needle electrode 51 contacting the resistance layer 41 in a small area and the ink held on the sheet type member 30 is heated, then the ink image is formed on the intermediate transferring body 40 to be thermally transferred to the recording medium 60. |
