PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove or reduce-irregular noise element from signals transmitted as a result of reading image data used for controlling conditions under which images are formed on a recording member, and to obtain correct dot size and line width. SOLUTION: On a transfer carrying belt 216 for carrying recording paper on which an image is recorded by an electrophotographic system, an image pattern 10 consisting of a cyclical repetition of toner image 12 and blank space 14 is formed and consecutively read by a reading means 230. The image pattern 10 is irradiated with a semiconductor laser 231, and light reflected from it is received by a photodiode 236. The detection output of the photodiode 236 is divided into areas. By dividing it into the areas corresponding to the cycle of the repetition in the image pattern and by performing an addition processing for each area, irregular noise element can be removed or reduced, and a correct line width can be obtained. |
