PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bridge device without hindering a full duplex communication in the case that a spanning tree is mounted and the full duplex communication is feasible. SOLUTION: This bridge device having a plurality of Ethernet ports is provided with a means that periodically detects whether links 241, 242 connected to ports 211, 212, 213, 231, 232, 233 are full duplex systems or half duplex systems, and a means that automatically halves a value of a path cost of the ports 211, 231 when links connected to the ports 211, 231 are full duplex systems. On the occurrence of a loop in he links 241, 242, communication is attained by using the link 241 higher in transmission rate.
