PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of a plasma display panel. SOLUTION: The plasma display panel 100 equipped with a write driving circuit 101, a scan driving circuit 102, a maintaining driving circuit 103, and an erasure driving circuit 104 is equipped with a data detection part 11 which detects whether or not there are display data in a one-field period. When there is no display data, a maintaining driving timing generation part 9 is controlled with the output signal of the data detection part 11 to stop the operation of the maintaining driving circuit 103 in the one-field period.
