PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a potable telephone set excellent in operability by facilitating retrieval of a memory dial. SOLUTION: A capital of a KANA (Japanese syllabary) or English letters is set by a capital setting processing with an arrow key (step 107), and an opposite party having the set capital is retrieved in a memory (step 108). Then the opposite parties retrieved and extracted are scrolled and displayed sequentially by the arrow key (steps 109, 110, 111), and when a desired name is displayed, an 'off-hook' key is depressed to make dialing of a telephone number of the name. Or not the 'off-hook' key but a 'registration' key is depressed to give information of the displayed opposite party to correction processing.
