COLORED MICA TITANIUM-BASED PIGMENT, AND COATING BODY USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject pigment useful as a coating body with excellent color tone flip-flop characteristics by including flaky mica base, specific metal- contg. multiple oxide layer and titanium dioxide layer. SOLUTION: This pigment is obtained by including (A) flaky mica base, (B) multiple oxide layer coating the component A and containing pref. 60-95 wt.% titanium, 1-24 wt.% iron and 1-24 wt.% nickel, and (C) titanium dioxide layer coating the component B; wherein the amount of the component C is pref. 3-100 wt.% based on the multiple oxide-coated mica. This pigment 10 has such a structure that there exists the mica 12 at the center, the multiple oxide layer 14 is formed therearound, and the titanium dioxide layer 16 is formed further theraround. This pigment is obtained by hydrolyzing an aqueous solution of an inorganic acid salt such as of titanium in the presence of mica followed by baking the resultant hydrolyzate at 500-1,000 deg.C to form a multiple oxide which is then hydrolyzed again.
