PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of providing a ferroelectric liquid crystal element having a large temperature dependency of spontaneous polarization Ps and small temperature dependency of a response speed by including a compound having three kinds of specific structures. SOLUTION: This composition includes (A) at least one kind of compounds of formula I [R1 is a 4-16C alkyl or an alkoxy; R2 is a 2-12C alkyl; rings A and B are each a 5-substituted, 2-(4-substituted phenyl)pyridine or the like], (B) at least one kind of compounds of formula II (R3 and R4 are each independently a, 1-15C alkyl or an alkoxy; A is 1,4-phenylene, a single bond or the like), and (C) at least one kind of compounds of formula III (R5 and R6 are each a 1-18C alkyl or an alkoxy; X1 and X2 are each independently H or F). The composition is preferably includes <=30 wt.% of the component A, 40-90 wt.% of the component B and 10-60 wt.% component C. The liquid crystal element using the composition can have a wide temperature margin at practical use. |
