PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reform a seal slide member so as to reduce the frictional coefficient while restraining its dimensions from being changed, in order to restrain heat generation and friction. SOLUTION: An inner race 2 of a seal slide member or a rolling bearing is formed on its outer surface with a nitride layer or a nitrosulphurizing layer 8 in a condition in which surface oxide is removed, and accordingly, the outer surface can be reformed into the one having a surface nature which is fine, flat and hard while thermal strain of a base material is restrained during the formation of the layer 8. Accordingly, the frictional coefficient of a seal slide part becomes low, and heat generation can be restrained even though oil is consumed. Further, the formation of the nitride layer or the nitrosulpherizing layer 8 can be completed at a low temperature and in a short time in comparison with those of the conventional one, and further, the necessity of post- treatment can be eliminated.
