METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ACCESSING GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION IN COMPUTER SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly and efficiently provide the geographical information of map, route or weather peculiar at an address or position stored in a personal information manager(PIM) without independently accessing another service or requesting the input of information stored before again. SOLUTION: A PIM 12 is provided with a computer display screen having a button for designating the geographical information. When a record identifier such as the name of the destination to contact is inputted or selected in the field of a display in the case of retrieving any specified record, the PIM 12 acquires the correspondent record from a data base 14. The record contains a position identifier such as an address. When the button for designating the geographical information is clicked, while using the position identifier, the PIM 12 forms the request of this geographical information and sends this request to a geographical information server 20. The server 20 processes this request and returns it to the PIM 12 for displaying the geographical information peculiar for the position identifier.
