PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new trans-4-hydroxycinnamate decarboxylase, capable of producing a deuterated 4-hydroxystyrene selectively in site in a high yield. SOLUTION: This trans-4-hydroxycinnamate decarboxylase can be obtained from a cell of Klebsiella oxytoca, uses trans-4-hydroxycinnamic acid as a substrate and has the optimum pH of about 7.2. Preferably trans-4-hydroxycinnamic acid (derivative) such as a compound of formula I (R is H, a lower alkyl, a hydroxyl group or a lower alkoxy) or the like is decarboxylated in the presence of a trans-4-hydroxycinnamate decarboxylase (4-HCD) in a reaction solvent containing heavy water to produce 4-hydroxystyrene (derivative) containing a deuterium atom at a vinyl position selectively in site such as a compound of formula II or the like. |
