摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To suppress torque shock generated when a reduced cylinder driving condition at a valve timing for low speed is switched into a full cylinder driving condition at a valve timing for high speed by improving engine performance over the driving region of wide range. CONSTITUTION:A controller of a multiple cylinder internal combustion engine is provided with a switching mechanism M for switching between full cylinder driving and reduced cylinder driving, and for switching between a valve timing for low speed and a valve timing for high speed. When a rotational speed NE of an engine is not more than a rotational speed NE1, the valve timing is switched into a low speed mode, and when it is higher than the first rotational speed NE1, the valve timing is switched into a high speed mode. When an engine load is not more than a predetermined load C, and when the rotational speed NE of the engine is not more than a second rotational speed NE2 which is lower than the first rotational speed NE1, reduced cylinder driving is carried out, and when the load is larger than the predetermined load C, and when the rotational speed NE of the engine is higher than the second rotational speed NE2, full cylinder driving is carried out.</p>
