An apparatus for generating the digital data for the pictures of an animation/information sequence for an electronic device is proposed. The electronic device, which is, in particular, one appertaining to consumer electronics, in this case has a demultiplexing device (43) for separating a bit stream into a main-picture bit stream and sub-picture bit stream. In this case, the sub-picture is displayable together with the main picture and provides information such as, for example, subtitles with respect to the main picture. The apparatus has a first decoding unit (44) for decoding the main-picture bit stream. A second decoding unit (45) for decoding the sub-picture bit stream is likewise provided. According to the invention, a data unit for the animation/information sequence is programmed, which can be decoded by the same decoding unit (45) which also decodes the sub-picture bit stream. In this case, the data unit contains a) the bit-map data for at least one object (13) to be displayed, and b) a number of display control command sequences (SP_DCSQ) which serve to define the display characteristics of the object (13) to be displayed in the picture. A display control command sequence (SP_DCSQ) contains at least one command for defining the display location of the object in the picture. |
