Glycogen polysaccharides with the nitrogen content being less than 60 ppm as measured by the Kjeldahl method and the reducing sugars content being less than 0.25 percent as measured by the method of R. D. Snell and Snell. Prefferably, said polysaccharides have a carbon content of about 44 to 45 percent, a molecular weight of about 2.5 +/- 0.1 x 10exp(6) Daltons and a rotatory power (alpha)D20 197 of 197 +/- 2.0 (c=1 in water). A process is characterised in that after obtaining a glycogen solution prepared by kno wn methods, the pH of the solution is adjusted to neutral and is treated with a cationic resin; the cationic resin is separated by means of filtration; the solution is treated with a non-acidic, volatile solvent miscible in water to precipitate the polysaccharide; and the precipitate is separated by means filtration.
|
