A herbicidal composition characterised in that it comprises a herbicidally effective amount of an acylated 1,3-dicarbonyl compound of the general formula (II) wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 independently represent hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, or wherein R1 and R2 or R3 and R4 taken together represent C2-C5 alkylene; R7 represents halogen, cyano, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, nitro or RkSOn herein Rk represents C1-C4 alkyl and n represents 0; R8, R9 and R10 independently represent hydrogen; halogen; C1-C4 alkyl; C1-C4 alkoxy; trifluoromethoxy; cyano; nitro; C1-C4 haloalkyl; or RbS(O)n wherein n represents 0, 1 or 2; and Rb represents C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl, phenyl or benzyl; and as an antidote component, an antidotally-effective amount of a compound selected from amides of haloalkanoic acids and 1,8-naphthalic anhydride, the weight ratio of herbicide component-to-antidote component being from 0.1 : 1 to 30 : 1. |
